Guest house & Wedding venue
Liefgekozen is situated near the town of Lothair in Mpumalanga on the Ermelo/Lothair road. Lothair is a small town near the Swaziland border. It is most famous as a destination in itself for the Giant Footprint, but also for the lake district that lies between Lothair & Chrissiesmeer. The economy of the town is driven largely by forestry and mixed farming. Lothair is situated in an area settled by Scottish immigrants brought here by Alexander McCorkindale. It was surveyed in 1878 and named after Lothair, the novel, written by the famous Benjamin Disraeli.
Liefgekozen farm was owned by Cornelius van Rooyen who also owned the farm Lothair. He was responsible for the establishment of the town Lothair, or peri-urban area as it was known. Liefgekozen farm is now owned by his eldest son Leon & his wife Susan who have been farming on this typical Highveld farm for the past 27 years. They have 2 daughters Jeanine & Lizelle. Jeanine got married in 2016 on the farm in the old shed which was previously used as a sheep shearing-shed and also served as the original homestead in the 18th century. This shed was transformed for the wedding. Due to the great success of the beautiful & unique setting, Leon & Susan were encouraged to develop it in a wedding venue.
